Quick Tips - Setting Up

Since the start of the COVID-19 crisis, we’ve been asked by quite a few of our clients how they could generate their own content at home, while maintaining a relatively high quality output (hey, we’re not there to shoot it for them!). We saw this as a fantastic teaching and learning moment for not only our clients, but for everyone currently affected by the inability to produce consistent, quality content for their brand.

So we kept it simple with 8 quick tips to help you produce higher quality video, and the best part is - you can do it all with the tools you already have!

  1. Find that good lighting. If you video is dark and a bit grim looking, people are not going to connect with your content, regardless of how good your message might be. We filmed this in front of a large window which creates a flattering, even light.

  2. Use your phone, not your laptop or desktop computer. Your phone’s camera has better resolution than your laptop. More resolution = higher quality video.

  3. Film in landscape, not portrait. Landscape is the industry standard for recording any kind of video - you can always create a second portrait edit for Instagram stories etc.

  4. Set your phone up at an angle which is good for the viewer - don’t shoot up your nose!

  5. Find a quiet spot to film your video with no echo. Turn off the TV and radio and keep your family or friends away while filming. Consider using a microphone to get even better audio - the one attached to your headphones will do!

  6. Speak clearly and slowly - especially if you have a thick accent like we do!

  7. If you make a mistake, start over and give it another go. We make mistakes all the time when recording ourselves talking, it’s not easy!

  8. To give your video and extra polished look, edit it with an app like iMovie or a free alternative. The more concise your video is, the better it will be received by your audience.

Happy shooting!
